1. Check Eligibility
  • Businesses employing 10 or more employees.
  • Specific states may have different criteria (some states require 20 employees).
2. Gather Required Documents
  • Employer’s registration certificate or license issued under various acts like the Shops and Establishment Act or the Factories Act.
  • Address proof of the establishment.
  • PAN card of the business.
  • Bank statements.
  • Address proof and identity proof of the owner/directors/partners.
  • Details of employees (name, date of birth, salary, etc.).
3. Register on the ESIC Portal
  1. Visit the ESIC website: ESIC Portal
  2. Sign up/Register: Create an account by providing necessary details.
  3. Log in: Use the credentials to log in to the portal.
  4. Fill in the application form: Enter details about the business and employees.
  5. Submit documents: Upload the required documents.
  6. Payment of initial contribution: Pay the initial contribution amount as per the prescribed rates.
4. Receive Registration Number
  • After submitting the application and documents, you will receive a 17-digit registration number.
  • This number is your unique identification for future ESIC compliance.
5. Distribute ESI Cards
  • Employees need to register on the ESIC portal to receive their ESI card, which they can use to avail benefits.
6. Regular Compliance
  • File monthly returns and contributions.
  • Keep records up to date with employee details and contributions.
